May Day Sale + Benefit for Unete

May Day Sale + Benefit for Unete
Through May 2nd, take 20% off your entire order using code MAYDAY2017! Plus, we'll donate 20% of our total sales through the 2nd to Unete!
Unete
NOWIA Unete, Center for Farm Worker Advocacy which began in 1996, is a movement of farm workers and immigrants that strives to empower and enrich the lives of both groups through education, cultural presentations, advocacy, representation in issues that affect their lives and organizing to defend immigrant rights.  UNETE formed due to the need for farm worker representation in legislative actions which would have excluded them from state minimum wage requirements and from their rights to file grievances related to labor violations.  Unete’s goals include working towards:
  1. Organizing the farm workers and Latino immigrants in the Rogue Valley.
  2. Educating the farm workers and Latino immigrants to advocate for themselves by offering  leadership training and building leadership capacity.
  3. Building a strong immigrant’s rights movement.
  4. Building community support for farm worker
    and Latino issues.
  5. Build appreciation and understanding of Latino and indigenous American cultures and traditions.
May Day
The Rogue Valley is a unique agriculture community centered around small farms dependent on Latino immigrant labor. The struggles for worker + immigrant rights is so vital to our local community here in Southern Oregon and in all farming communities.
Help us celebrate May Day by honoring historic labor struggles and supporting current movements for labor rights!

May Day is a traditional Spring holiday celebrated by many cultures, but is also recognized worldwide as International Workers' Day. We love the holiday's history spanning from ancient folk celebrations to modern labor struggles. The advancement of worker's rights is deeply entwined in the history of May Day, giving us reason to celebrate the many gains and sacrifices made.

All aspects of modern labor rights in this country - from the eight hour workday, to child labor laws, to the two-day weekend - have been won through a long and often bloody struggle by the labor movement. To this day, workers are engaged in battles to obtain rights - like Familias Unidas por la Justicia currently fighting for basic labor rights from Sakuma Berries and Driscoll's.

May Day is traditionally celebrated as a day off from all things - work, school and even shopping. We understand the inherent hypocrisy in having a sale for May Day and, for this reason, we are donating half of our sales on May 1st to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The ACLU uses litigation, lobbying, and community empowerment to defend and preserve individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the constitution. We're excited to support this vital work!

We hope you all enjoy a restful weekend and a fun-filled May Day! Here's to remembering the sacrifices of the past so that we can value the present and protect the future!
