I checked my bank account and you charged me twice! Not cool!

We're sorry for the confusion! Some banks display card charges as two separate transactions - an "authorization" and a "completed" charge. "Authorization" happens when you place your order. This ensures that you have the available funds/credit in your account to cover the charge. This may also appear as a "hold" or "pending" charge on your account. Payment is completed/collected when your order is processed just before shipping. At this time you may see a separate transaction to verify that the funds have been transferred and the charge is complete.

Please also note that authorization happens every time you attempt to place an order. So, if your card is declined due to a billing address or CSV number mismatch, you may still see a pending charge on your account. The pending charge/hold will be released within a few business days according to your bank's policy.

If you have any questions about charges, please contact us for more information.

Company, Products, Trivia

Why Wild Rose?

I'm glad you asked! Ash (the founder of Wild Rose) is a major plant nerd and has spent a ridiculous amount of time learning to identify, harvest and use medicinal plants. The wild rose (or wood rose) is one of the first wild plants she learned to identify. Rosehip seed oil is incorporated into many of Ash's formulas for its nourishing and healing properties.

Why Wild Man?

In 2011, Ash began crafting natural skincare products specifically for folks  who really, really like the smell of dirt and forest rather than flowers. Socialization and gender norms generally reserve these scents for those who identify as men, but we all know that scent preference defies the gender binary. For better or worse, we chose the name "Wild Man" but these products can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of gender identity. The Wild Man line offers the same high-quality botanicals as Wild Rose, but with a less flowery scent profile. Most Wild Man products have analogs across the line so if you are a beard grower who loves floral scents, consider using one of our Wild Rose facial serums in place of Beard Conditioner.

What do you mean by "all natural?'

This means that our products are made from ingredients that can be easily collected or produced with materials found in nature without extreme processing. We mostly use raw plant materials, expeller pressed or steam distilled oils and organic alcohol extracts in our formulas. We do not use anything synthetic or chemically processed to make our products.

Are your products organic?

We use organic ingredients whenever possible, but no, our finished products are not certified organic. Some ingredients are harvested from the wild or our own (uncertified organic) permaculture gardens. Others ingredients are not available through a trustworthy organic source. However, we're always looking for new and better organic suppliers. All organic ingredients are listed with an asterisk (*).

What's a GMO?

GMO stands for "Genetically Modified Organism." GMOs are generally created to withstand heavy pesticide use or, in some cases, produce their own pesticides. GMOs are a threat to sustainable farming through crop contamination and extreme pesticide resistance. Moreover, the longterm affects of GMO use on our land and bodies has not been determined. Here in Southern Oregon, voters have passed a ban on the cultivation of GMOs to protect our small farm economy. Wild Rose whole heartedly supports these efforts and we refuse to use any ingredients that are genetically modified.

What does "ethically handcrafted" mean?

This means that our products are handmade with the strictest ethical standards possible. Wild Rose is our response to an economy where the ecological, political and social costs of manufacturing are veiled. We spend much of my time tracking down raw materials, packaging and even office supplies to their source. This minimizes or eliminates the social, environmental and ethical footprint of our products by choosing sources that are local, non-GMO, sustainably harvested, organic or fair trade. We grow many of the fresh botanicals needed for our recipes in (uncertified) organic permaculture gardens just outside our workshop.

Multiple factors are carefully considered when sourcing our ingredients, including growing conditions, worker treatment, endangered status or bioregion impact (for oils and herbs), sustainability, production waste, and ecological impact. We research our sources on behalf of our customers to ensure purity and sustainability. It’s what we do when we buy anything for ourselves or a loved ones, and we can’t help but give the same care and attention to our customers. Our business practices are completely intertwined with our personal ethics and integrity. This ensures that our customers always receive the best of what we have to offer.

We do our best to use local materials and supplies. Oregon is a hot spot for earth-conscious professionals, and we are fortunate to be able to source most of our materials, including packaging, from local producers and distributors. To help offset the inevitable impact of shipping and manufacturing, we make yearly donations to environmental protection and social justice groups. In this way, we hope to set a precedent through steadfast ethics and transparent business practices. We welcome all customer questions about our ethics.

How long have you been in business?

Wild Rose started in the Spring of 2011. Read the full story here.

What kind of charities do you support?

Wild Rose offsets the inevitable environmental impact of our business by donating a portion of our annual profits to environmental and social justice groups. Past donations have gone to Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands Center, The Confederated Tribes of the Lower Rogue, Wildlife Images, NEST, Blue Mountains Biodiversity Project, Black Mesa Indigenous Support, Peaceful Uprising and Units'ot'en Camp. Your purchase directly supports the vital work of these amazing groups!
